What it is, and why researchers use it
This is general chemistry background on the diluent itself — not instructions for reconstituting or administering any specific peptide.
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water for injection that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, which is what distinguishes it from plain sterile water — a single vial can be used across multiple withdrawals rather than once.
Many peptides are supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder for stability during shipping and storage. A sterile aqueous diluent is required to bring the powder into solution before it can be studied in solution-based research. Bacteriostatic water is a standard laboratory diluent for this purpose.
Bacteriostatic water should be stored at room temperature away from direct light and heat, and kept sterile between uses. It is a pharmaceutical-grade sterile product, but it is not a medicine in itself, and it carries no independent therapeutic claim.
